If you have had any exposure to some of the trends in 2020, you would’ve probably noticed that monochromatic spaces are currently dominating the narrative of interior design. Likewise, in Design Group Latinamerica, this trend plays a protagonical role in the brand’s DNA; being a viable strategy which has been implemented throughout the years to perfectly proportionate the spaces and nourish the environments with a visual equilibrium.

Keeping this in mind, the DGLA team compiled the fundamental guidelines for the configuration of a harmonious monochromatic design.

Highlight the contrast

When developing an interior monochrome, it is important to consider the addition of a complement with a contrasting color, seeing as it adds a visual stimulus to the room and provides an energizing factor to the simplified layout. “ There is no ideal formula nor a perfect space, therefore the monochromatic appearance shouldn’t strictly be one color,” remarks Ario Casarin, DGLA’s Creative Director.

This means that, above all, it is fundamental to remember that a room must be laden with personality; one of the fundamental objectives at the moment of developing a space for our clients.

It’s not just about color

One common iteration of this trend that is commonly used in DGLA’s designs is the usage of a layout with monochromatic materials. The tiling can also be used to command a space in an innovative manner: the rough textures provide a sense of intimacy while the softer textures produce an elegant and sophisticated style. Details such as these keep a visual engagement, preventing the pitfalls of a lack of visual depth and monotony.

In DGLA, we employ this strategy by considering that when adding texture to a room, we must consider the visual weight of each element in order to create an attractive and balanced design; alternating between heavy and light compositions to add a visual depth without allowing the material’s character to dominate the space.
